Hiking trail around Plagnes lake
The "Lac des Plagnes" is the largest lake in the Abondance valley. It is located 5 km from the village center of Abondance. The path around the lake is an easy walk.
Go down to the lake and continue on the dike, direction Chalets de Lens by the Tindérets hut. Turn left at the end of the dike, you will see on your left the sunny side of the Mont de Grange, the highest point of the Abondance valley at 2,432 m.
The tour of the lake is done by a rather wide path. Follow "Tour du lac" (wooden beacons). Warning: it is not advisable to take the "fisherman's path" all along the lake which becomes rather difficult to access when the ground is wet.
The tour ends with the descent to the lake shore just below the cottages. Pass several wooden footbridges to reach the dyke on which larch and birch trees are planted in a line.
Possibility to extend the stroll : 250m ascent, 2.5 km walk.
Variant by the waterfalls: after taking the path on the right side of the lake, at the end of the lake, before the wooden bridge, take the path towards the refuge des Tindérêts. You can discover beautiful waterfalls in the forest. You can then go down by the forest road on the left to reach the car park of the lake.
